Schuchmann Structural Associates, a full service structural engineering firm, is currently searching for a high quality, motivated structural engineer to join our team. As a structural engineer at the firm, you will work alongside other engineers and staff in our office in the development of construction documents for our projects. Types of projects include public and private schools, large and small retail buildings, low rise multi-story offices buildings, as well as large manufacturing, distribution and industrial facilities. Many of our buildings incorporate the design of tilt-up concrete wall panels for vertical and lateral load resistance.
In a collaborative effort, you will work closely with other members of the design and detailing team to prepare high quality structural construction documents. Other responsibilities will include preparation of project specifications; coordination with other engineering disciplines; review of structural submittals, RFI responses and construction field observations.
Since many of our projects are design-build, you may work directly with the contractor/client in coordinating project requirements and therefore should have some experience with this type of project delivery method.
The ideal structural engineer will be passionate about their career and willing to invest the time and energy to develop and design the cost-effective and efficient structural solutions required by our clients for their projects.
Versatile, and able to design an entire building–including both vertical and lateral loads (wind & seismic) –as well as proficient with a variety of project types.
Work closely with design team to ensure drawings are accurate and completed on time.
Prepare clear concise design calculations using handwritten or computer generated calculations.
Coordinate structural project work with geotechnical, architectural, process, mechanical and other engineering consultants.
Provide project review at various stages throughout project design.
Desired Skills & Experience
Successful candidate may be required to manage several projects at one time, paying particular attention to time management, budget and project scheduling requirements. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of structural engineering experience in a design/consulting office and will possess the following skills and qualifications:
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Florida, or the ability to become registered.
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis.
Technical knowledge of relevant design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC & NDS as required for the design of steel, masonry, concrete and wood structures.
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD. Experience with Revit is a plus.
Excellent leadership skills, computer skills, technical skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
Strong technical background with firm grasp of design concepts without relying on software. Where appropriate, RISA 3D, RISA Connection, RetainPro, and other software and spreadsheets may be used for structural design.
